Tajik president keen on cooperating with China in green, digital economic projects

DUSHANBE. May 20 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said that China is one of Tajikistan's major partners in the trade, economic and investment sectors at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

"China is one of our country's major partners in the trade, economic and investment sectors. Total Chinese investment in Tajikistan's economy has reached $3.8 billion over the past ten years," Rahmon was quoted by his press service as saying.

The parties discussed expanding ties in various branches of industry, in particular in mining, transportation, energy, and agriculture.

"In this regard, the Tajik side's interest in establishing active cooperation with China in implementing joint projects associated with the green and digital economy, artificial intelligence, and setting up production facilities in Tajikistan using green technology was highlighted," the Tajik presidential press service said.

The parties also discussed cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and exchanged views on security cooperation.

While addressing current global affairs, the parties focused on multilateral cooperation within international and regional organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Central Asia + China format. They also underlined the importance of further interaction between the parties on mutual support for each other's global initiatives.
