Novak: Russia and China intend to sign Power of Siberia 2 contract in near future

MOSCOW. May 17 (Interfax) - Russia and China expect to complete preliminary work on the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline soon, and sign a contract for its construction, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Thursday on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

"We are also planning to complete the review soon and sign a contract for the construction of a gas pipeline with a capacity of 50 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas through the territory of Mongolia [Power of Siberia 2]," Novak said.

Russia and China have "other new projects as well," Novak said.

The Power of Siberia 2 project provides for the supply of up to 50 bcm of gas per year through Mongolia to China from resources located in Western Siberia.

Gazprom started assessing the possibility of supplying up to 50 bcm of gas per year to China through Mongolia in 2020. Design and survey work began as part of the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline construction project in February 2022. It will pass through the territory of Mongolia and become a continuation of the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline.
