Russian current account surplus doubled to $31.7 bln in 4M - Central Bank
MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - Russia's current account surplus doubled to $31.7 billion in January-April 2024 from $15.6 billion in the same period of last year, according to an estimate published on the Central Bank's website.
The most significant drivers of the increase were the rapid decline in imports of goods and a reduction in the balance of investment income deficit, the regulator said in a commentary.
The April current account surplus was $6.6 billion, down 58.3% from $16 billion in March but up 33-fold from $200 million in April 2023.
The trade surplus for goods widened 17% to $43.7 billion from $37.2 billion in 4M.
