Ukrainian agro enterprises boost number of pigs 16% in first quarter - sector association
MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - The number of industrial pigs in Ukraine totaled 3.69 million heads at the beginning of April 2024, growth of 16% year-on-year, accounting for 67.7% of the total number of pigs in the country, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukrainian Pig Farmers Association.
The volume of sales of pigs, in live weight for slaughter, for all categories of farms totaled 243,800 tonnes for January-March 2024, an increase of 2% year-on-year, with agricultural enterprises accounting for 140,200 tonnes, a rise of 5.5%.
Moreover, the sector association said that the average purchase price for pork was UAH 62.3 per 1 kg, including VAT, or equivalent to $1.58/kg, in April, growth of 1.2% month-on-month, though a drop of 22.1% year-on-year.
