Putin proposes Kovalchuk as Accounts Chamber head for Federation Council's consideration
MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed Boris Kovalchuk as the Accounts Chamber head for the Federation Council's consideration, the Federation Council said on Telegram.
"The Russian president has proposed Boris Kovalchuk as the Accounts Chamber head for the Federation Council's consideration," the statement said.
Kovalchuk was appointed deputy head of the Presidential Control Directorate in March, after chairing the board of the Inter RAO energy company.
By law, the Council of the Chamber suggests candidates for the Accounts Chamber head to the president at the proposal of Federation Council committees. At least three candidates are suggested, and the president chooses one of them and proposes the candidate for the Federation Council's consideration.
The candidate is approved by a majority of votes by all Federation Council members.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on May 10 that the chamber had suggested Kovalchuk, acting head of the Accounts Chamber Galina Izotova and Federation Council Budget and Financial Markets Committee Chairman Anatoly Artamov as candidates for the Accounts Chamber head.
The Federation Council Budget and Financial Markets Committee is due to discuss the issue on Monday.
