Demand for electric vehicles doubles in Ukraine in April, share of new cars down 4%

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - The number of electric vehicles registered in Ukraine (both new and second-hand) doubled in Ukraine year-on-year to 4,200 in April 2024, Ukrainian media said, citing a statement by Ukravtoprom on a social network.

The demand for electric vehicles dropped by 5% since March 2024.

The share of new electric vehicles among all registered vehicles dropped to 17% from 21% in April 2023 and 20% in March 2024.

Most electric vehicles registered last month are cars, 4,141 (including 707 new and 3,434 second hand), and only four out of 79 commercial vehicles are new. One new electric bus was registered, too.

The top five new electric car brands registered in Ukraine were Volkswagen iD.4 (141), Honda M-NV (72), Nissan Ariya (68), BYD Song Plus (49), and MG 4 (39).

The top five second-hand car brands for the first time included Nissan Leaf (497), Tesla Model 3 (414), Tesla Model Y (343), Volkswagen e-Golf (253), and Hyundai Kona (205).

Thus, according to the association's data on registration of electric vehicles in the first quarter of this year, about 16,100 electric vehicles were registered in Ukraine for the first time in January-April, which is 2.3 times more than last year.

According to Ukravtoprom, the registration of electric vehicles in Ukraine grew 2.8 times in 2023 to 37,600 vehicles, 20% of which were new, versus 17% the year before.
