Ukrainian Railways increases grain transportation 15.9% in January-April 2024 YoY

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian state railway company Ukrainian Railways, or Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ), transported 15.049 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain in January-April 2024, which is 15.9% more than it did in the same period last year, Ukrainian media quoted Valery Tkachyov, deputy director of UZ's commercial department, as saying at a conference with agrarian market representatives.

"The amount of grain loaded in the first four months of this year was the largest in the past four years," Tkachyov said.

The amount of grain loaded onto Ukrainian trains in April declined by 194,000 tonnes to 3.265 million tonnes from that in March. The average daily amount of grain loaded onto Ukrainian trains declined by 2,800 tonnes to 108,800 tonnes. The amount of grain carried by rail in April also declined by 230,000 tonnes to nearly 3.51 million tonnes, he said.

"The volume of grain exported [by rail] also declined last month by 266,000 tonnes to 2.976 million tonnes. In January-April, the volume of such transportation was 12.889 million tonnes, which is 2.392 million tonnes more than in the same period last year," Tkachyov said.
