Omani consortium rep to chair Polymetal board of directors

MOSCOW. May 2 (Interfax) - Omar Bahram, a representative of a consortium of Omani investors that is the largest shareholder in gold and silver miner Polymetal , has been appointed chairman of the company's board of directors, Polymetal said.

Bahram joined the company's board of directors in March. He has more than 13 years of experience in M&A and consulting in the field of legal and corporate matters. Currently he heads UzOman company, which manages a diversified investment portfolio and direct investments in Central Asia, owned by the sovereign wealth fund of Oman (Oman Investment Authority, OIA). Prior to this, he worked as a legal consultant at OIA on large international transactions as part of the privatization strategy.

After the sale of the Russian business, Polymetal remains the second largest gold producer in Kazakhstan. Polymetal's largest shareholder, with a 23.9% stake, is a consortium of Omani investors led by Omani government-owned Mercury Investments International fund.
