Tajik president hopes to expand cooperation with EBRD

DUSHANBE. May 2 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) President Odile Renaud-Basso have discussed the progress made in implementing EBRD-funded projects in Tajikistan, Rahmon's press service said.

The parties devoted special attention to projects aimed at bolstering the financial system, developing the private sector, transport, the energy sector and public water supply, as well as raising the quality of utility services, the press service said.

"We highly appreciate today's level of our cooperation with the bank and set high hopes for it in terms of achieving the country's extensive development goals," Rahmon said.

The parties underscored the need to raise more investments and continue reforms in Tajikistan to mitigate the negative impact of external factors on some of Tajikistan's macroeconomic results, and to increase the economy's resilience against modern-day threats and risks.
