Tourist cluster with aqua park worth 77 bln rubles to be built near Russia's Kaliningrad

KALININGRAD. April 26 (Interfax) - A year-round tourist cluster with an aqua park worth 77 billion rubles will be built in the Kaliningrad region by the Volna company, the regional governor's press service told Interfax.

"The Aquapolis investment project has been discussed at the Investment Council under the Kaliningrad region governor. It is due to be implemented on the Baltic Sea's shore outside Zelenogradsk. A year-round tourist cluster with an aqua park will be built. The cluster will have an area of 600,000 square meters, in addition to 88,000 square meters of the aqua park. About 2 million tourists will be expected each year, including 3,000 per day," the press service said.

The company will fund the project with its own money and borrowings.

Besides the aqua park which will be completed in 2031, the cluster will include a health resort, a spa, a 325,000-square-meter hotel, a shopping mall, apartment blocks with a total floor space of 180,000 square meters, a fitness center, and a recreational area on the beach. There will be an educational center, a school, a kindergarten, and an outpatient clinic as well.

It will be the largest aqua park in Russia, Volna co-founder Alexander Kachanovich said.

The Investment Council approved the project. There will be no tender for leasing the plot of land.

Kachanovich is known in the Kaliningrad region as a co-founder of over 40 companies that build homes, apartments and administrative buildings and produce building materials. One of his latest projects is the Baden Spa Apartment in Svetlogorsk.
