Tajik President Rahmon, Pope Francis hold negotiations in Vatican

DUSHANBE. April 26 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has paid an official visit to the Vatican, where he met with Pope Francis, the Tajik presidential press service said on Friday.

"All the necessary conditions have been created in Tajikistan for tolerance and the coexistence of members of all religions. The Tajik nation, which has historically made a notable contribution to global civilization owing to its profound scientific and literary development, welcomes all types of interreligious and inter-civilizational dialogue," the press service quoted Rahmon as saying.

The Holy See, as an entity of the international system, plays an important role in global affairs and makes a significant and continuous contribution to promoting the principles of peace, stability, tolerance, and harmony in the international arena, he said.

The parties also had productive negotiations on other matters, it said.
