KazMunayGas is to produce additional 135,000 tonnes at Uzen and Karamandybas fields in 2024
ALMATY April 26 (Interfax) - KazMunayGas (KMG) continues its efforts to revive the Uzen and Karamandybas fields in western Kazakhstan, aiming to increase oil production by an additional 135,000 tonnes in 2024.
"The rehabilitation project at the Uzen and Karamandybas fields began in 2023, and as of the first quarter of 2024, it has resulted in an additional 5,900 tonnes of oil production. By the end of the year, KMG aims to achieve a total increase of 135,000 tonnes," KMG said in a statement.
The project includes drilling new wells, rehabilitating existing ones, and implementing polymer flooding and measures to contain water-cut methods to enhance oil recovery.
In 2023, plans were made to rehabilitate the Uzen oil and gas field.
In 2021, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev asked KMG to develop a geological exploration plan for the Mangistau region, anticipating declining oil production by 2030 due to field depletion. KMG had previously announced a rehabilitation concept for the Uzen and Karamandybas fields.
Ozenmunaigas, a KazMunayGas subsidiary, oversees oil, gas, and gas condensate production at the Uzen and Karamandybas fields.
