Russia delivers 6.345 mln tonnes of oil to India in Feb, remains country's main supplier

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - India imported 22.385 million tonnes of oil in February - 3.3% less than in the same month of 2023, according to statistical materials from the country's Ministry of Commerce. In value terms, supplies amounted to $13.25 billion.

A month earlier, the country purchased 20.451 million tonnes, meaning imports increased by 9.5% in January 2024.

The three main contracting countries have not changed since June 2022: Russia supplied 6.345 million tonnes (-18% compared with January, comparable to February 2023), Iraq - 3.95 million tons (-12.5% compared with January and +8% compared with February 2023), Saudi Arabia - 4.15 million tonnes (1.7 times growth compared with January and +15.9% compared with February 2023). At the same time, for the first time since September 2022, Saudi Arabia moved up to second place in terms of supplies, pushing Iraq to third place.

In total, India imported 42.836 million tonnes of oil in two months ($25.29 billion in value terms), which is 1.8% less than in the same period last year.

As reported, India imported a total of 235.839 million tonnes of oil in 2023, 4.5% more than a year earlier. Oil from Russia accounted for 82.207 million tonnes (up 2.6 times), from Iraq - 48.83 million tonnes (-7%), from Saudi Arabia - 35.217 million tonnes (-12.4%).
