Number of Russian film viewers doubles in 2023 - culture minister

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Box office receipts from Russian films reached 28.1 billion rubles at the end of 2023, while nearly 91.5 million people watched Russian films, which is almost twice as many as in 2022, Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova said.

"Box office receipts from domestic films totaled 28.1 billion rubles. Russian films were watched by nearly 91.5 million people, up 97.7% year-on-year," Lyubimova said at a summary ministry board meeting.

In total, 251 domestic films, including 74 animated films, were put into production with the ministry's funding, and 394 domestic films were completed with the Russian Culture Ministry's financial support in 2023, she said. A total of 207 Russian films were released for distribution.
