Ukraine launches anti-dumping investigation into cucumber, tomato imports from Turkey

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from Turkey to Ukraine on April 12.

The investigation was initiated by nine greenhouse farms, according to the commission's decision, which took effect on April 17 and was published on Wednesday, as quoted by Ukrainian media.

According to the complaint materials, the dumped imports of cucumbers and tomatoes from Turkey increased in absolute terms in 2019-2022, while prices were below those of Ukrainian producers.

This resulted in a decline in production, sales and share in consumption, deteriorated financial performance from the sale of goods, and lower profitability and liquidity of the Ukrainian greenhouse industry, the Economy Ministry said in its survey.

The commission concluded that fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from Turkey could be imported to Ukraine at dumping prices. At the same time, the dumping margin cannot be considered minimal and the import volumes insignificant.

Ukraine imported 13,940 tonnes of tomatoes worth $17.91 million, including 13,060 tonnes worth $15.79 million from Turkey in January-February this year, while exports amounted to only 0.7 tonnes worth $2,500, the State Statistics Committee said.

Ukraine also imported 7,020 tonnes of cucumbers and cornichons for $8.6 million, including 6,730 tonnes from Turkey for $8.14 million in the first two months of this year. Exports of these products amounted to only 37 tonnes worth $84,500.
