Ukraine receiving emergency assistance from European power grids for third consecutive day

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Ukrenergo's operations control center has been receiving emergency assistance from the power grids of European countries almost throughout the day for the third day in a row.

"Power shortages persist in the energy system throughout the day. Power plants, due to damage, are unable to generate enough electricity to cover all of consumer needs," Ukrainian media quoted Ukrenergo as saying on Wednesday.

Power consumption in Ukraine at 9:30 a.m. on April 24 was 10% higher than at the same time the day before. Power consumption during evening peak hours on April 23, i.e. at 9:00 p.m., was still 3.5% lower than on April 22 due to electricity use restrictions imposed on businesses and industrial enterprises from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. because of power shortages in the grid, Ukrenergo said.

Power consumption caps will be in place in the Kharkov region throughout the day on Wednesday. Around 207,000 households remained without electricity in the morning. Round-the-clock power consumption caps are also in effect for industrial enterprises in the Krivoi Rog district of the Dnepropetrovsk region.

According to Ukrenergo, electricity will be imported from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova throughout April 24, except for the night hours, in the total amount of 13,764MW/h, including 1,579MW in peak hours. No exports are planned.

The technical capacity for electricity imports by Ukraine and Moldova from Europe has been at 1,700 MW/h since December 1, 2023.

Twenty-three populated localities in the Khmelnitsky region were without electricity on Wednesday morning due to adverse weather.

Power supply has been disrupted to 400 populated localities across Ukraine, including in the Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolayev, Odessa, Sumy and Kharkov regions, for other reasons.
