Over 4,200 evacuated from flood zone in Russian Tyumen region

TYUMEN. April 24 (Interfax) - Several thousand people have been evacuated from the flood zone in the Tyumen region, the press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Over 4,200 people have been evacuated from the flood zone in the Tyumen region to date. Five hundred and four people, including 186 children, are staying at shelters," the press service said.

In all, 155 homes, 523 dachas, 2,776 household plots and 17 road sections have been flooded.

"The reinforcement of an earth embankment along R-402 Tyumen-Omsk Highway has intensified in the Abatskoye district, where the flood is headed. Rescuers are reinforcing embankments along the bridge with a protective film to enhance waterproofing properties of the temporary structure," the press service said.

The Tyumen region announced a flood emergency on April 8.
