Ukrenergo reports emergency assistance from Europe provided almost round-the-clock

MOSCOW. April 23 (Interfax) - Power supply to Ukrainian businesses and industrial enterprises will be limited from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on April 23, Ukrainian media said on Tuesday, citing the Ukrenergo electricity transmission system operator.

"The measures do not apply to critical infrastructure and defense plants," the operator said.

Restrictions on power supply to industrial enterprises are in effect round-the-clock in the Krivoi Rog district of the Dnepropetrovsk region, it said.

There have been also been restrictions on power supply to households in the Kharkov region during the day. About 209,000 households were having a blackout this morning.

"A shortage of electricity will persist throughout the day. Damaged power plants are unable to generate enough electricity to meet the demand in full," Ukrenergo said.

The Ukrenergo dispatch center has requested emergency assistance from European power grids all through April 23 for the second day in a row.

"We are asking all clients to save electricity and urge industries to maximize the use of imported electricity and use alternate power sources if available," the operator said.

Breakdown maintenance continues at thermal power plants, while routine maintenance is underway at nuclear power plants. Sunny weather is good for solar power plants.

Electricity will be imported from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova during the day in the total amount of 9,298MW/h, including 1,592MW in peak hours. No exports are planned.

The technical capacity for electricity imports by Ukraine and Moldova from Europe has been at 1,700 MW/h since December 1, 2023.

It was noted that 383 populated localities had no power supply in Ukraine as of this morning for various reasons.
