Ukrainian president accepts credentials from newly-appointed ambassadors

MOSCOW. April 23 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has accepted credentials from a number of newly-appointed ambassadors to Ukraine, including Ambassador Jaroslaw Guzy of Poland, Ambassador Paul Lehmann of Australia, Ambassador Urasa Mongkolnavin of Thailand, Ambassador Francisca Ashietey-Odunton of Ghana, and Ambassador Stephen Mubiru of Uganda, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the presidential website.

Congratulating the Polish ambassador on the start of his diplomatic mission to the country, Zelensky thanked the Polish people for supporting Ukraine. "We are grateful for the shelter for a large number of Ukrainians, for the humanitarian and military assistance," he said.

The two discussed Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of Poland's support for Kiev's aspirations. Zelensky also called for unblocking the Ukrainian-Polish border.

While conversing with Ghana's ambassador, the Ukrainian president mentioned the recent inauguration of the Ukrainian embassy to that country. "It is very important for us to open Africa. For a long time, your region has been remote for Ukraine, and now we want to make it closer and our relations stronger," Zelensky said.

During a conversation between the Ukrainian president and the Ugandan ambassador, the parties discussed prospects for promoting bilateral relations in various fields. Zelensky said Ukraine was willing to develop mutually beneficial cooperation with Uganda, particularly in the digitalization, information technology, and education sectors, it said.
