Baku, Yerevan report start of expert work on border coordinates

YEREVAN/BAKU. April 23 (Interfax) - Armenian and Azerbaijani expert groups began making geodetic measurements on Tuesday to determine border coordinates, the two governments said in statements.

"Consistent with the agreements reached after the 8th meeting of the commissions on demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, expert groups from Armenia and Azerbaijan began to determine border coordinates on the basis of geodetic measurements on April 23, 2024," the Armenian government's press service said.

Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev made a similar statement.

The Armenian prime minister's office said earlier that the border would be demarcated at four villages in the Tavush region of northeastern Armenia for the first time.

The Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions issued a joint press release after their 8th meeting to announce a preliminary agreement on delimiting the border in the area of the Armenian village of Baghanis, the Azerbaijani village of Baghanis Ayrum, the Armenian village of Voskepar, the Azerbaijani village of Asagi Askipara, the Armenian village of Kirants, the Azerbaijani village of Xeyrimli, the Armenian village of Berkaber, and the Azerbaijani village of Qizilhajili.

Protests continue in four villages in Armenia's Tavush region against handing over the territories to Azerbaijan.
