Tajikistan posts inflation of 0.8% in March, 3.6% YTD - Eurasian Development Bank

DUSHANBE. April 23 (Interfax) - Tajikistan posted inflation of 3.6% YTD as at the end of March, just as in February, analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) said in the bank's weekly macro review.

"The rise in consumer prices in the republic accelerated to 0.8% month-on-month for the month, 0.4% month-on-month excluding seasonal factors, from 0.3% month-on-month in February, which was the highest in 12 months. We expect inflation to return to the target range of the National Bank of Tajikistan [6% +/- 2 percentage points] under the pressure of strong domestic demand," the EDB analysts said in the review.

Tajikistan's Economic Development and Trade Ministry data indicate that the country's inflation has slowed to 3.8% pa in 2023 from 4.2% pa in 2022. Food product prices rose 3.4%, non-food products grew 6.6%, and services increased 1.2% in the period.
