Belarus raises railway freight rates by 8%

MINSK. April 23 (Interfax) - The Belarusian Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry has approved a resolution to adjust rates for shipping freight by railway.

"Rates for railway shipments of freight and work (services) related to organizing and carrying out shipments have been raised by an average of 8%," the ministry said.

The resolution, which goes into effect after its official publication, calls for changes in accordance with the method for annual indexation of rates for railway freight shipments in line with current law, the ministry said.

The final price of shipment depends on a number of factors, such as type of freight, ownership of the rolling stock, distance, weight and load.

The change in rates affects only businesses, the ministry said.
