Poland's PKP Cargo ready to enter Ukrainian freight transport market

MOSCOW. April 23 (Interfax) - PKP Cargo, a subsidiary of Polish State Railways, plans to enter the Ukrainian market after U.S. companies finish building transshipment terminals on the Ukrainian-Polish border, Ukrainian media cited PKP Cargo CEO Alan Beroud as saying in an interview with Puls Biznesu.

"Americans want to build transshipment terminals in Ukraine. We intend to apply for contracts on their operation," Beroud said.

PKP Cargo can transport various types of shipments and does not need to buy wide-gauge locomotives and railcars, as the United States and the European Union plan to build a European-gauge track to Lvov and then to other cities, including Odessa, the report said.
