EU foreign policy chief concerned about Georgia's foreign-agent bill

BRUSSELS. April 22 (Interfax) - The foreign ministers of European Union countries have voiced their concern about the Georgian bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said.

"It was a commitment by the Georgian government to withdraw this project of law and not to present it again. This has not been fulfilled. [...] We are very much concerned about the fact that this law has been presented again to the parliament," Borrell said in Luxembourg on Monday following an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The European Commission will present a report on how the situation in Georgia has been unfolding, he said.

The Georgian parliament passed the bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence in the first reading on April 17. Opposition MPs took no part in the vote.

Opposition parties and non-governmental organizations have been holding daily protests against the adoption of this draft legislation.
