Tajik president describes UK as important West European partner at meeting with British foreign secretary

DUSHANBE. April 22 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has noted Tajikistan's focus on the development and strengthening of relations with the United Kingdom at a meeting with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

"We view the UK as an important West European partner. Our country pays much attention to the development and strengthening of multifaceted relations with the United Kingdom," the presidential press service quoted Rahmon as saying.

In turn, Cameron lauded the noticeable expansion of Tajik-British relations and their good prospects.

According to the press service, the sides discussed bilateral political, economic, trade, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

"The broadening of inter-parliamentary relations was an important item on the agenda. The need for drawing British investments in the mining, metallurgical, light, food, pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors of Tajikistan was acknowledged," the press service said.

The sides expressed their interest in cooperation in green energy and transition to the green economy. The agenda also included the beginning of cooperation in water and climate issues, labor migration and air traffic, the press service said.
