Azerbaijan to begin constructing five solar power plants, wind farms with total capacity of 1.3 GW in 2024

BAKU. April 22 (Interfax) - Construction will begin in 2024 on five solar and wind power plants with total capacity of 1.3 GW, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said.

Speaking in New York during discussions as part of the UN-organized Sustainable Development Week, Shahbazov said that Azerbaijan plans with international energy companies to implement renewable energy projects gradually with total capacity of 28 GW by 2037.

"As part of this, construction will begin this year on five solar power plants and wind farms with total capacity of 1.3 GW," Shahbazov was quoted as saying by the Energy Ministry.

Shahbazov said that Azerbaijan initially plans in parallel with this to export 5 GW of renewable energy capacity through various corridors to Turkey and Europe.
