Number of blocked checkpoints on Ukraine-Poland border drops to two

MOSCOW. April 22 (Interfax) - Truck traffic resumed on April 20 at the Shegini-Medyka and Krakovets-Korczowa checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukrainian State Border Service's Telegram channel.

"[...] Polish farmers concluded their protest in front of these checkpoints. Trucks are being processed and let across the border in two directions as usual," the service said.

Polish farmers had resumed blocking trucks heading to these checkpoints on April 18, and as of April 19 four checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border were blocked. In addition to Shegini-Medyka and Krakovets-Korczowa, there were problems with truck traffic at the Jagodzin-Dorogusk and Rava Ruska-Khrebenne checkpoints.

Polish farmers have been holding protests since February, blocking truck traffic at some parts of the border with Ukraine. At the height of the protests, six checkpoints were blocked, including Shegini-Medyka and Krakovets-Korczowa. They are unhappy about duty-free imports of cheap agricultural products from Ukraine into Poland and other European Union countries, which have had a negative impact on local producers. Under pressure from farmers, Poland has imposed unilateral restrictions on imports and transit of a number of Ukrainian agricultural products.
