Russia boosts barley exports to China - Agroexport

MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - Russia ramped up barley exports to China by 13.4 times to over 180,000 tonnes in the first two months of 2024 from 13,500 tonnes a year earlier, the Agriculture Ministry's Agroexport Center reported.

By value, these exports surged by 10.6 times to $43 million.

Russia has the potential to increase barley exports to China to almost 1 million tonnes worth over $200 million by 2030, Agroexport estimated.

Russia harvested 2.9 million tonnes of winter barley and 18.2 million tonnes of spring barley in 2023, down from respectively 3.1 million tonnes and 20.3 million tonnes in 2022, the Federal Statistics Service reported.

Barley is grown almost everywhere in Russia, but the largest crop areas are in the Volga region, the central part of the country and Siberia, Agroexport said.
