Cargo turnover at Russia's seaports declines 3.3% to 214 mln tonnes in Q1 - seaport association

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Cargo turnover at Russia's seaports declined 3.3% year-on-year to 214.3 million tonnes in January-March 2024, the Association of Commercial Seaports (ACS) said on its website.

ACS data indicate that transshipment of dry cargo decreased 2.5% to 103.5 million tonnes and liquid cargo declined 4.1% to 110.8 million tonnes in the period.

In the dry cargo segment, transshipment of coal fell by 15.2%, to 43.4 million tonnes, ferrous metals by 5.3% to 4.9 million tonnes, ore by 4.4% to 2.2 million tonnes, and cargo on ferries by 1.3% to 1.8 million tonnes. Meantime, transshipment of grain increased by 13.1% to 18 million tonnes, cargo in containers by 11.9% to 13.6 million tonnes, and mineral fertilizers by 37.9% to 10.2 million tonnes.

In the liquid cargo segment, oil transshipment rose by 0.7% to 69 million tonnes, and liquefied gas transshipment increased by 4.6% to 9.4 million tonnes. Transshipment of petroleum products dropped by 16.5% to 29.7 million tonnes and food cargo by 1.3% to 1.7 million tonnes.

Export cargo handled 167.9 million tonnes (+3.4%), import cargo handled 9.8 million tonnes (+3.2%), transit handled 17.5 million tonnes (+1.6%), and coastal cargo handled 19.1 million tonnes (-6.9%).
