Ukraine receiving emergency assistance from power grid operators of neighboring countries - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Ukraine was receiving emergency assistance from the Romanian, Polish, and Slovak power grid operators as of Thursday morning, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the Energy Ministry's social media post.

The anticipated volume of electricity supplied to Ukraine from abroad should amount to about 2% of total consumption, the ministry said. No power consumption limits were to be set on Thursday morning anywhere but in the Kharkov region and Krivoi Rog.

Ukraine also received emergency supplies of electricity from the abovementioned countries during peak hours on Wednesday evening, whose volume was under 1% of total daily consumption. "Accepting emergency assistance from neighboring countries is a standard tool of interaction between synchronized power systems in case of an urgent need for electricity. As well as our partners, Ukraine also provides emergency assistance as much as it can when necessary," it said.

Damage caused to the Ukrainian power system and colder weather have increased the load on the grid, which requires prudent use of electricity, it said.

"We ask both households and industrial consumers to reduce the use of power-intensive appliances during peak hours (from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)," the ministry said.
