Azerbaijani FM, EU special rep for Central Asia discuss implementation of energy, transport agreements

BAKU. March 17 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala in Baku on April 16.

"At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the status and prospects of Azerbaijani-EU relations, the Azerbaijani role in Central Asian-EU relations, and cooperation in international platforms and formats," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

The discussion centered on energy security, communications and transport agreements with the European Union and relations with Central Asia developed in that context.

"The significance of cooperation developed under the Azerbaijani-EU Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy, which envisages joint efforts towards energy security and the development of renewable energy was underlined in that connection," the ministry said.

Bayramov briefed Hakala on the work done by Azerbaijan in the development of transport and communications.

"The sides exchanged views on other bilateral and regional affairs of mutual interest," the ministry said.
