Moldovan president calls for consolidating around European integration referendum

CHISINAU. April 16 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Maia Sandu has welcomed the Moldovan Constitutional Court's judgment supporting a bill on a referendum augmenting the constitution with a provision on commitment to European integration.

"We need unity, we need the participation of every party, civic organization and citizen so that we can guarantee peace and prosperity of Moldovans together. By consolidating for the sake of a European Moldova, we will achieve the common goal of Moldovans living in peace, dignity and freedom in a strong European country," Sandu said on social media.

Parliament Speaker, ruling Party of Action and Solidarity chair Igor Grosu also hailed the Constitutional Court's judgment.

"Over 30 years have passed and, finally, it's time that we, citizens, tell the entire world that we are Europeans and want to be part of the European family. The referendum on Moldova's entry into the EU will determine our present and future for the next decades. This is a project of our generation," Grosu said on social media.

As reported earlier on Tuesday, the Moldovan Constitutional Court supported a bill augmenting the constitution with European integration provisions.
