Azerbaijan increases gas exports 60% in Q1 to 4.9 bcm - customs

BAKU. April 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's exported gas volumes declared to customs in January-March 2024 totaled 4.933 billion bcm, 60% more than for the same period in 2023, the State Customs Committee said.

The gas shipped during the reporting period accounted for 29.28% of Azerbaijan's total gas exports versus 30.32% in Q1 2023.

The value of Azerbaijan's declared gas exports totaled $1.752 billion (a 25.4% decrease).

The State Customs Committee as of yet does not publish a breakdown of the countries to which Azerbaijani gas is exported.

Customs maintains statistics on exports based on declarations. A declaration for sold gas is provided after the actual sale has been made, and not at the time it is pumped through pipelines.

Azerbaijan has entered into gas supply contracts with six countries in Europe: Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Serbia. In addition, a number of other countries in Europe have expressed interest in purchasing Azerbaijani gas.

In addition, Azerbaijani gas is also exported to Turkey (via the TANAP and South Caucasus Pipeline, SKTM gas pipelines) and Georgia (via the SKTM and the Gazimagomed-Gazakh gas pipeline).
