Over 450 communities across Ukraine cut off from power - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax) - Over 450 communities across Ukraine were cut off from power supply as of Monday morning, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the national power grid operator Ukrenergo's social media post.

In particular, 36 populated areas in the Zhitomir and Khmelnitsky regions have no electricity now due to adverse weather, and repair crews are working now to reconnect them to the grid.

About 3,500 customers in 31 communities in the Khmelnitsky region and about 1,000 customers in five communities in the Zhitomir region have no electricity now, the Energy Ministry said on its social account.

In addition, two populated areas have no power supply after a fire crippled some high-voltage equipment in the Odessa region, where repairs are also ongoing now, Ukrenergo said.

Another 416 communities, including 68 in the Sumy region and 19 in the Chernigov region, had no power supply for other reasons on Monday morning.

Power consumption is still restricted in the Kharkov region, with hour-by-hour schedules applied starting 6:55 a.m. on Monday, leaving about 240,000 customers without electricity. Power consumption limits have also been set for industrial consumers in Krivoi Rog, Ukrenergo said.

While no power consumption restrictions for households have been set in other regions, Ukrenergo's dispatch center asked for the use of appliances consuming a lot of energy to be restricted at peak consumption hours between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Three power generating units have been stopped for scheduled and emergency repairs, Ukrenergo said.

To maintain balanced operations of the energy system on Sunday, generation at renewable energy facilities was limited from 8:40 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. to 1,566 MW during certain hours.

Ukraine is to import a total of 9,242 MW/h of electricity from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary on Monday, which is about twice as much as it did on Friday, April 12. No exports are planned on Monday, while Ukraine exported 2,200 MW/h of electricity on Friday.
