Ukraine ramps up coke imports 9-fold in first quarter

MOSCOW. April 15 (Interfax) - Ukraine ramped up imports of coke and semi-coke 9.1-fold year-on-year to 111,600 tonnes in volume terms in January-March 2024, Ukrainian media reported, citing materials from the state customs service.

Coke imports surged 7.1-fold to $42.718 million in monetary terms for the first three months of the year.

Imports came mainly from Poland at 95.34% of supplies in monetary terms, the Czech Republic at 3.42%, and Hungary at 1.23%.

Ukraine exported five tonnes of coke worth $1,000 to Latvia in the first quarter. Supplies were in February only, as there were no exports in January and March 2024, the same as in January and March 2023.

As reported, Ukraine reduced imports of coke and semi-coke 8.5% year-on-year to 328,697 tonnes in physical terms and 25.8% year-on-year to $129.472 million in monetary terms in 2023. The country exported 3,383 tonnes of coke, a decline of 12.3%, totaling $787,000, a decrease of 22.2%.
