Polish inspection rejects 10,550 tonnes of Ukrainian biscuits

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - The Polish Agricultural and Food Quality Inspectorate (IJHARS) branch in Rzeszow has prohibited two batches of Ukrainian biscuits with a total weight of 10,550 tonnes from being sold on the Polish market.

The decision was made due to the wrong marking, Ukrainian media said, citing an IJHARS statement on a social media. The agency said the decision had been enforced.

On April 9, the IJHARS branch in Rzeszow banned three batches of Ukrainian rolls with a total weight of 5,340 tonnes from distribution in Poland.

Several days before that, three batches of Ukrainian ice cream with a total weight of 8.48 tonnes were removed from the Polish market in Lublin because of melting.

In early April, the IJHARS reported the largest ever fine of 1.5 million zloty (about $380,000) imposed on an importer of 11,500 tonnes of Ukrainian technical rapeseed and feed wheat, which were designated as counterfeit because of use as food products. It also banned imports of 57.66 tonnes of moldy Ukrainian tomato paste.

IJHARS Chief Inspector Przemysław Rzodkiewicz said in March that 1.4% of Ukrainian products examined at the border had been rejected over the past year.
