Ukraine, Slovakia plan to complete Mukachevo-Velke Kapusany electricity interconnector reconstruction by end of 2028

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - Ukraine and Slovakia are planning to complete the reconstruction and retrofitting of the Mukachevo-Velke Kapusany electricity interconnector by the end of 2028, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.

"We have plans to complete the reconstruction and retrofitting of the Mukachevo-Velke Kapusany electricity interconnector by the end of 2028. Thanks to this, we will have much more opportunities regarding exports and imports of electricity. This is for the benefit of energy security of both countries," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying at a joint press briefing with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Thursday.

Slovakia will be able to use a Ukrainian offshore oil terminal to supply oil products to the European Union, as well as Ukrainian gas storage facilities to store Slovak gas reserves, Shmygal said.

The parties agreed to set up a working group to help diversify the supply of nuclear fuel to nuclear power plants.

Ukraine and Slovakia agreed to review the contractual framework for financial, technological and economic cooperation and social security by the middle of 2025, Shmygal also said.

"Trade and recovery. We agreed to systematically review our contractual framework regarding financial, technological and economic cooperation and social security until the middle of next year," Shmygal said at the press briefing.

The parties also agreed to consider the abolition of unilateral restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural products as soon as possible, he said.

The two prime ministers met in the Slovak town of Michalovce.
