Ukraine signs memorandum with French federation InfraNum

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - Ukraine has signed a memorandum with the French federation InfraNum, under which it will receive a grant amounting to 756,000 euros for restoring communications infrastructure in some parts of the country, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation and Education, Science and Technology Development and Digital Transformation Minister Mikhail Fedorov said.

"The memorandum with the French federation InfraNum, which brings together over 200 telecom companies, envisions a 756,000-euro grant," Ukrainian media quoted Fedorov as saying on his social account.

The funding will be used to launch a pilot project and restore the Internet and electronic communications in a number of communities, he said.

Fedorov said he discussed plans for drawing more grants and investments from the French telecommunications sector for restoring telecommunications infrastructure in Ukraine with Pierre Heilbronn, the French president's special envoy for Ukraine's economic relief and reconstruction.

The Ukrainian minister cited the World Bank's estimate according to which the full reconstruction and restoration of electronic communications in Ukraine would require at least $4.67 billion over a period of ten years.

"I am thankful to our partners for their understanding of the importance of supporting the Ukrainian electronic communications sector," he said.
