Ukrenergo reports power grid damage in certain regions, emergency power outages

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - Ukrenergo reported damage to a substation and generation facilities in the Odessa, Kharkov, Lvov and Kiev regions and the Kiev-controlled part of the Zaporozhye region on Thursday.

Power outages are scheduled in the Kharkov region, while there are no restrictions on power supply to households in other territories, Ukrainian media said, citing the electricity transmission system operator.

There are power consumption limits on industrial enterprises in the Krivoi Rog district of the Dnepropetrovsk region.

According to Ukrenergo, power supply to 380 populated localities, including those in the Vinnitsa, Ivano-Frankovsk, Sumy and Kharkov regions, was cut on Thursday morning.

The output of renewable energy facilities was limited to 1,939 MW in certain hours between 9:30 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. on April 10 in order to maintain the power grid balance.

"The power grid had a surplus of electricity on Wednesday afternoon because of active operation of renewable energy plants. At the request of Ukrenergo, the Polish PSE electricity transmission system operator gave emergency assistance between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. by buying excessive electricity from Ukraine in the total amount of 2,800 MW/h," Ukrenergo said.

The Ukrainian power grid had a shortage of electricity in the evening of April 10. In order to maintain the power grid balance, the Ukrenergo dispatch center requested urgent assistance of Polish PSE between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. in the amount of 200MW/h.

According to Ukrenergo, electricity was imported in the morning of April 11 and more imports were planned for the evening from Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova in the total amount of 833 MW/h with the 494 MW peaks in certain hours.

Electricity was exported during the day, when renewable energy plants ran at their peak capacity, to Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova totaling 2,812 MW/h with the 371MW peaks in certain hours.
