Polish inspectorate rejects 5,340 tonnes of bread rings from Ukraine

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - The Inspectorate for Commercial Quality of Agricultural and Food Products (IJHARS) in Rzeszow has issued a resolution banning the circulation of three batches of bread rings imported from Ukraine with a total weight of 5,340 tonnes on the Polish market.

The decision was made due to the low fat content and high sugar content in bread rings, Ukrainian media reported, citing inspectorate as saying on social media. The decision was immediately enforced.

As reported, IJHARS has withdrawn from the Polish market three batches of ice cream with a total weight of 8.48 tonnes, imported from Ukraine, due to defrosting in Lublin on April 5.

The Polish Trade Inspectorate earlier imposed the largest fine in its history of 1.5 million zlotys (around $380,000) on an importing company for importing 11,500 tonnes of technical rapeseed and fodder wheat to the Polish market from Ukraine as counterfeit due to their subsequent use as food. Additionally, decisions were made to ban a batch of 57.66 tonnes of tomato paste imported from Ukraine due to the presence of mold.

IJHARS chief inspector Przemyslaw Rzodkiewicz said in March that 1.4% of batches of products from Ukraine examined by the inspection commission at the border had been rejected over the past year.
