Kiev would agree to U.S. financing on credit - Zelensky

MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - While Ukraine is considering various options, it would agree to receive financing to pay for military support from the United States on credit, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.

"As concerns American assistance, it's critical in any case. To our great regret, we're somewhat in thrall to this situation. To our great regret, the Ukraine has become a domestic policy issue in the United States. And it's precisely this immature approach [on the U.S. part] that I can't understand," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky as saying in televised remarks last Saturday.

"However, I still have faith, I am working, and I hope that reason will triumph and we'll receive the necessary assistance after all," Zelensky said.

Asked whether Ukraine would agree to receive assistance from the U.S. on credit, Zelensky replied that multiple options were under consideration. "You know, a [U.S.] senator was here recently, and he asked me, 'Would you agree to money on credit?' I asked him, 'And what options do I have?' 'Well', he says, 'if, for instance, someone told you that either it's a loan, or you won't get [assistance]'. I said, 'So, why choose if there's no choice?'," Zelensky said.

"Let's speak openly: we'll agree to any option. I'll tell you more, if someone offered Ukraine a [support] package on credit right now or for free in a year, we'd say: only right now. There's no choice here. That's what concerns a loan. It's important: the sooner, the better," he said.
