Japan broadening sanctions against Russia

TOKYO. April 5 (Interfax) - Japan will broaden sanctions against Russia and augment the list of goods prohibited for export, the Japanese Economy Ministry said in a press release.

The list now includes various types of vessels - firefighting and crane ships, floating docks, floating and submersible drilling and extraction rigs, and yachts and sports vessels.

The ban applies to fossil fuels, mineral oils and related products, such as motor oil, inorganic chemistry products and precious metals, as well as their inorganic compounds (hydrogen chloride, aluminum hydroxide), plastic and items made from it (nitrocellulose), tungsten, molybdenum, cobalt, zirconium, rhenium and related products.

It also concerns steel products, including pipes for oil and gas transportation, electrical equipment and its parts, including lithium-ion and nickel-hydrogen batteries, heating boilers, power tools, grinding machines, and equipment for processing wood, cork, hard rubber and plastic.

Optical and photographic equipment, measuring and testing instruments, precision rangefinder equipment, and their parts and accessories are sanctioned as well. Microtomes and thermostats are given as examples of products in this category.

At the same time, Tokyo is prohibiting imports of Russian non-industrial diamonds. The ban will take effect on May 10.
