Ukrenergo reports emergency power outages in Kharkov, region

MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax) - The Ukrenergo dispatch center had to resort to emergency power outages in Kharkov and the Kharkov region from 7 a.m. on April 5.

"The reason is a technological incident in the regional energy company's network. Repairs are in progress," Ukrainian media cited the electricity transmission system operator as saying on a social network on Friday.

There was no power supply to about 550,000 clients in the region on Friday morning, and electric transport service was limited.

Consumption limits remain in effect for industrial enterprises in the Krivoi Rog district of the Dnepropetrovsk region.

According to Ukrenergo, 408 populated localities, including those in the Sumy, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk regions, were having a blackout on Friday morning.

Ukrenergo said its repair teams had resumed operation of a 330kV power transmission line in the south.

A nuclear power unit was placed under scheduled maintenance in the past 24 hours.

"The sunny weather is favorable for renewable energy plants," it said.

On April 5, electricity is imported mostly in the morning and in the evening from Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova in the total amount of 6,776 MW/h, with peak supplies of up to 1,362MW in certain hours.

No exports are planned for Friday.

Media also said, citing the Energy Ministry, that Ukraine has no shortage of electricity. The power grid operates in a stable and balanced manner. An emergency shutdown of a thermal power plant's generating unit for technological reasons has been reported.

"Network restrictions are possible today," the ministry said.
