Ukrainian Railways' Q1 grain transportation reaches 9.432 mln tonnes, largest amount since 2020

MOSCOW. April 5 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways transported 9.432 million tonnes of grain in the first quarter of 2024, which is the largest amount since 2020 and is 15% more than in the first quarter of 2023, Ukrainian media cited deputy head of the company's commercial operations department Valery Tkachev as saying at a meeting with agrarian market participants.

Grain transportation by Ukrainian Railways rose 22.5% to 3.165 million tonnes in March 2024 year-on-year, the company said. The average daily amount transported in March 2024 was 111,600 tonnes, 8,600 tonnes lower than in February of this year.

According to the latest data, 3.738 million tonnes of grain were transported by rail on all routes in March, including 3.241 million tonnes of exports. Eighty-five percent of this amount, or 2.753 million tonnes, was delivered to ports.

As reported, Ukrainian railroads transported an all-time high amount of freight, 16 million tonnes, in March.
