Aliyev discusses Baku-Brussels relations with von der Leyen, voices Azerbaijan's stance on EU-U.S.-Armenia meeting

BAKU. April 4 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev spoke with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen by phone on April 4.

"During the telephone conversation, the parties discussed the prospects for development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, particularly highlighting such areas of cooperation as renewable energy, transportation connections, energy security and others," the Azerbaijani presidential press service said.

The phone conversation took place at von der Leyen's initiative, the press service said.

The parties noted that Baku's hosting of the COP29 conference this year creates favorable opportunities for cooperation in the field of energy transition and climate action.

Von der Leyen stated the EU's readiness to support Azerbaijan in humanitarian demining during the phone call.

"The issue related to the trilateral meeting to be held in Brussels on April 5 was raised during the phone conversation. President Ilham Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan's stance on this meeting [...] and emphasized the necessity of regional inclusivity," the press service said.
