Ukraine boosts industrial output 5.9% in 2023 - State Statistics Service

MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - Ukraine boosted industrial output 5.9% in 2023 versus a sharp contraction of 36.7% in 2022, Ukrainian media reported, citing updated data from the State Statistics Service, Gosstat.

Gosstat said that the country ramped up industrial output 22.6% year-on-year in December 2023, 19.3% in November, and 16% in October.

Gosstat said industrial output surged 51.2% in March, then slowed to growth of 18.2% in April, 17.9% in May, 13.7% in June, 13.8% in July, 15.5% in August, and 11.7% in September.

The processing industry boosted production 12.3% in 2023, while output declined 2.2% in the mining industry and 2.3% in supplies of electricity, as well as gas and steam.

Production of computers, as well as electronic and optical products, soared 58.8%, as rubber and plastic products increased 20.7%, mechanical engineering rose 16.7%, furniture manufacturing grew 16.6%, the chemical industry increased 15.5%, the food industry rose 15%, metallurgy grew 8%, and the woodworking industry increased 3.5%, though output of coke and petroleum products dropped the most at 31.4%.

Output of metal ores fell most significantly at 10.2% and coal 3.3% in the mining industry, as oil and gas production remained at the 2022 level.

Ukraine boosted industrial goods and services 16.4% to nearly UAH 3.271 trillion in 2023, including UAH 547.02 billion abroad.

Sales overall fell the sharpest in the processing industry at 56%; supplies of electricity, gas and steam, as well as air conditioning at 31.2%; and mining and quarrying at 11.7%.

The official exchange rate as on April 4, 2024, is UAH 39.20/$1.
