Azerbaijan plans to launch nine renewable energy power plants by 2027 - Energy Ministry

BAKU. April 4 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan plans to put nine power plants powered by renewable energy sources into operation by 2027, the country's Ministry of Energy said.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov received a delegation led by General Director of the Department for Central and West Asia of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Yevgeny Zhukov, the Ministry said.

At the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in the energy sector, including the development of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

"In this regard, the minister informed the ADB delegation about Azerbaijan's plans to introduce nine power plants in the country by 2027 to increase the share of renewable energy sources involved in electricity production, create an energy efficiency fund and other projects," a ministry release says.

The parties discussed cooperation potential in these areas, as well as the development of "green" hydrogen, a renewable energy project in Nakhichevan and a number of other issues.

During the meeting, the importance of commissioning the project to create a photovoltaic system with up to 100kW capacity, implemented jointly with the ADB on Lake Boyukshor prior to the COP29 conference in Azerbaijan (in November 2024), was noted.
