Ukraine to plant 5.6 mln ha of crops in 2024

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - Ukraine will sow crops on 5.6 million hectares of land in the course of the spring planting campaign, Ukrainian media quoted Prime Minister Denis Shmygal as saying at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

"We are adopting a resolution that will make it possible to open the new Ukrainian-Romanian checkpoint Belaya Tserkov - Sighetu Marmatiei. We plan to create nine new border checkpoints and modernize another 13 in the western direction," Shmygal said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.

"All this will provide more opportunities for Ukrainian exports and accelerate our sectoral integration into the European Union," he said.

"The issue of logistics is extremely important to us, since the planting campaign is continuing in Ukraine. Almost 477,000 hectares of grain and grain legume crops have already been planted," Shmygal said.

The leaders in planting spring crops are the Odessa, Nikolayev, Ternopol, Poltava, Khmelnitsky and Vinnitsia regions, he said.

"Overall, we plan to sow 5.6 million hectares of land this year. Ukraine will certainly maintain its status as a leading food exporter and guarantor of global food security," Shmygal said.
