Russia imports 235.6 mln eggs from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Turkey in Q1 - Rosselkhoznadzor

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - Belarus, Azerbaijan and Turkey supplied 235.6 million eggs to Russia in the first quarter of 2024, Russian plant and animal health watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor reported.

"All of the received product meets Russian standards," the watchdog said, adding that in the course of oversight inspectors check documents and marking and also take samples to "ensure the quality and safety of the product."

Imports from Belarus, the largest supplier, surged by 250% to 194.8 million eggs in the quarter from 55 million a year earlier.

Russia has imported an average of about 630 million eggs per year from Belarus in the past four years, the Argus information system showed.

Russia imported 28.1 million eggs from Azerbaijan in the first quarter, Rosselkhoznadzor said. With the 1.2 million eggs imported in December, imports totalled 29.3 million. Russia received the first shipment of eggs from Azerbaijan on December 19 through the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint, the agency recalled.

Russia imported 12.6 million eggs from Turkey in the first quarter, with the first shipment coming through the Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint on January 3. The largest shipment, consisting of 885,600 eggs, arrived on January 27 through the Novorossiysk port.

Six suppliers in Azerbaijan and 21 companies in Turkey have permits to export eggs to Russia.
