Ukrainian Railways transports record amount of freight in March - deputy PM

MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Railways state company transported 16 million tonnes of freight in March 2024, which is one-third more than in March 2023 and 10% more than the previous record volume of freight, 14.5 million tonnes, it transported in February 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Restoration Minister Alexander Kubrakov said.

"The Ukrainian Railways has shown record growth in transportation volumes for the third month in a row," Ukrainian media qouted Kubrakov as saying on social media.

In particular, the Ukrainian Railways transported 5.3 million tonnes of freight, including 2.7 million tonnes of grain, via seaport stations, and another 3.4 million tonnes, including 484,000 tonnes of grain, via western border checkpoints in March 2024, he said.

The company transported around 8 million tonnes of freight, including 3.2 million tonnes of grain, outside of the country in March 2024. The volume of exported freight made up 51% of the company's transportation in March 2024, having grown by more than half from March 2023.

The company also transported around 7 million tonnes of freight domestically, which is 11% more than in March 2023, he said.

"Import transportation grew 65% to 808,300 tonnes compared to March 2023," he said.
